THE-RAMESSEUM™

w/ Ramessu Meriamen (Brother Deven)

With the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina impacting the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan vicinity with devastating losses in the socio-economic arena, we initiated ourselves to help remedy critical issues in areas of national need.

The ultimate goal of this mission is to serve underrepresented communities who have not been able to support themselves with viable business and community development options in their neighborhoods prior to Hurricane Katrina. Now, in post Katrina development, we are dedicated to the community with offering services to underserved markets.

The-Ramesseum, established in August 2005, is a New Orleans based community development organization with an enlightenment program of the arts, sciences, and letters sharing history, information, and knowledge focusing on and promoting health, wellness, and business development to Low-Income Communities (LICs) through Educational Programs, Presentations, and Training Seminars.

The Ramesseum, was Ramses II's Temple in Luxor, Egypt and was called the "House of a Million Years." This institution was at the forefront of political, economic, and cultural activities during his reign in 1300 BC. Thus, we seek to embody that awesome task as well by working with disadvantaged communities in Southern Louisiana (and throughout the world) to create jobs, build assets, and enhance life-skills as well as the skills of entrepreneurs.

"An increase in businesses produces an increase in employment which has the potential of reducing poverty, crime, and other associated ills and motivate the economy. We should mandate that every Black Man be employed for his own sustenance and, more importantly, for the survival of the Black family and its communities."

Our program will be featuring the following topics:

  • News & Notes
  • Post-Katrina New Orleans
  • Louisiana Recovery
  • ManHood Discussions
  • Black Inventors
  • Guests/Call-Ins
We will be analyzing these issues from the following areas of people activity:
  1. Economics
  2. Education
  3. Entertainment
  4. Labor
  5. Law
  6. Politics
  7. Sex
  8. Religion
  9. War

Brother Deven (Ramessu Meriamen) was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and is a product of the New Orleans public school system. He experienced hurricane Katrina 1st-hand with his family in the Hyatt Hotel, adjacent to the Superdome. His eyewitness account of this unfortunate event propelled him to run for the U.S. House of Representatives, Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District on November 7, 2006.

The feeling of being stuck in the hotel for six days and observing it get progressively worse as the days went by reminded Bro. Deven of the inequities in treatment applied to various sectors of society. Being concerned on how he was going to protect his mother and sister and get them away from Katrina's aftermath enabled Bro. Deven to understand the plight of all those affected by the storm.

Bro. Deven has a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Orleans. He also has an M.S. in Electrical Engineering form Howard University and has completed his studies for a Doctorate in Engineering from Morgan State University focusing on the intellectual property aspects of patenting semiconductor devices.

He has been past chapter president of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at UNO, a mathematics teacher in Washington, DC and Baltimore, Md., a weapons division researcher investigating Global Positioning Systems (GPS), a program analyst for a FAA contractor, a math/science teacher and curriculum coordinator for Upward Bound at 3 different Universities, and a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark office analyzing semiconductor device and process applications.

For the past 7 years, he has traveled extensively to Africa studying the scientific contributions of the Nile Valley civilization with respect to a similar relationship of New Orleans being on the Mississippi River. He is currently completing several books on his experiences, sharing insights he has learned on how engineering and science relate to our stream of consciousness and world view.

Presently, he is a patent agent and founder of an intellectual property (IP) company in New Orleans (in addition to the Ramesseum) specializing in the consultation and research of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Hence, the Deven-Mark Corporation is a research and development firm with special emphasis on serving underserved markets/people, offering options and strategies to protect their inventions and ideas.

He relaxes by practicing Kemetic Yoga and Herbal Fasting and is enthusiastic about being a part of the Harambee Family.
